Merlot is a dimly blue-coloured wine grape, that is utilized as both a mixing grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to infer from the Old French word for adolescent blackbird, merlot, a modest of merle, the blackbird (Turdus merula), likely from the color of the grape. Merlot-based wines typically have medium figure with clues of berry, plum, and currant.
