The Moon (Latin: luna) is the sole characteristic satellite of the Earth, and the fifth most imposing satellite in the Earth’s planetary group. It’s the greatest characteristic satellite of a planet in the Earth’s planetary group with respect to the span of its primary, having 27% the width and 60% the thickness of Earth, bringing about 1⁄81 its mass. The Moon is the second densest satellite following Io, a satellite of Jupiter.
