The Sims: The King of Rehashing

THE SIMS 4: DISCOVER UNIVERSITY. Well, we expected (and demanded) it from the beginning. Sparked from the fires of the FIRST Sims 2 expansion pack (by the way… shout out to the BEST and MOST REVOLUTIONARY Sims iterations out there), this rumored-to-be final addition to the franchise is understandably highly-anticipated, yet I can’t help but feel cheated.

As a 15+ year fan of the franchise, I am most familiar with the classic ‘Maxis-esque’ projection plan as far as development goes; I like to see a certain steady pattern of development as far as expansion and “stuff packs” go. I wish we would have been granted the simple request for toddlers in ‘The Sims 4’ base game. I wish we didn’t have to wait months (if not years, if I’m not mistaken) for SWIMMING POOLS to be a thing in THE SIMS 4. Why are they granting our demands so late in the game? Almost every Sims fan can agree that we are nearing the end of the “Sims-cycle”, meaning that there are very few ‘traditional’ expansion packs left for them to release before they inveitably MUST announce ‘The Sims 5′, God permitting. Point is: they shouldn’t be introducing an EP that literally was the FIRST Sims 4 EP as (what is most likely the) LAST Sims 4 EP. They seem to just always follow a pattern and their arsenal is so limited, it’s ridiculous to not realize that, without Maxis’ magic, The Sims 4 has a short shelf life with EA in control (as much as that pains me to say- I still love the game overall, it’s just not the same).
